The Scottish are Coming!  The Scottish Are Coming!

Prince of Scots announces Cultural Showcase in the Windy City during the Ryder Cup.

Scottish Culture, Arts, Style, and Fashion prepare to lay siege on the Chicago landscape during the 2012 Ryder Cup.  The Scottish Government, Scottish Development International, Creative Scotland, and Scotland Re:Designed will create a venue of Scottish fashion and textile at the Inland Steel Gallery Chicago with Prince of Scots very own Iona Crawford.

The 40th Ryder Cup will take place at The PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles from 26 to 28 September, 2014, and will be the first time in more than 40 years – and only the second time in history – that the tournament has been staged in Scotland.

During the  2012 Ryder Cup in September, at the historic Medinah Country Club near Chicago, an official handover ceremony will take place which will see Scotland and Gleneagles step forward and take on the mantle of hosting the 2014 Ryder Cup.

To celebrate, a cultural handover festival will also take place in Chicago, showcasing the very best of Scottish music, theatre, art and fashion.  Iona Crawford, a Vogue UK Premier Designer, is coming off a successful September with Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, New York Home Market Week, and Hamptons Fashion Weekend Out with Spring Summer 2013 Ossian Collection and the newly launched Iona Crawford, The Art of Living Home Collection.    Crawford will headline the fashion and cultural venue designed to showcase Scotland’s most valuable resource, the talent of their people.

In early September, Scottish artist and designer Iona Crawford was in the Hamptons showing off her new clothing designs and a line of pillows and linens made exclusively for Prince of Scots. All of the items feature Crawford’s watercolor paintings of birds and other wildlife, and the pillows perfectly demonstrate the modern romantic Scottish lifestyle.

The Scotland Re:Designed  Showcase is part of a five-day Scottish trade mission which has been timed to coincide with the 2012 Ryder Cup.  The event will be passing to Gleneagles Golf Resort and Spa in 2014.  The Scottish Government Sponsored gallery runs September 24th to 27th, 10 AM to 5 PM Daily at the Inland Steel Gallery at  77 N. Dearborn in Chicago’s Loop District.

“It’s most appropriate that this business and media showcase is being held in Chicago during golf’s biggest event in the calendar, the Ryder Cup, as we celebrate its handover to Scotland – the home of golf – for 2014” said Chris Hunt,  Founder of Scotland Re:Designed.

The Scottish Culture invasion began in August with Renowned Scottish artist, Andy Scott at the Chicago Sculpture International Outdoor Exhibition.  Andy Scott, celebrated for his large scale public art contributions is the only non-American artist to exhibit in the year round event.  Scott’s work “The Kelpies”, the mythical supernatural water horse, is presented at the Field Museum, Chicago.  The visionary sculptures vision is on display at Prince of Scots Boutique.

Iona Crawford is coming off a successful September with Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, New York Home Market Week, and Hamptons Fashion Weekend Out with Spring Summer 2013 Ossian Collection and the newly launched Iona Crawford, The Art of Living Home Collection.

The Scottish cultural events will in parallel to the Ryder Cup as part of a cultural exhibition showcasing Scottish music, theatre and art in Chicago.  Celtic Connections will tour for the first time, sharing the best of Scottish musical talent with new audiences. The National Theatre of Scotland will also be in town, joining forces with the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre to present David Greig’s critically acclaimed “The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart”.

Prince of Scots, a visionary in the Scottish Revolution and Evolution of Fashion, has created a fashion incubator in the Hamptons to showcase the best of the best of Scottish Trade to America’s top luxury market.  The company has partnered with Iona Crawford successfully opening new opportunities in the home lines market on a global scale.  The Hampton boutique also offers MYB Textiles in home linens, a century old weaver of madras and lace panels.

David Campana, Creative Director at Prince of Scots, said “Iona Crawford is a shining example of the beauty and elegance which is a trademark of the Best Scotland has to offer, its people and their visions of design.” Prince of Scots represents the Modern Luxury Lifestyle.

Andy Scott

Andy Scott is one of the UK’s leading public artists. His work is based on the creation of recognizable objects, rooted firmly in the realm of figurative art. He strives to create works which operate on varying levels of interpretation, from immediate appreciation to the considered appraisal and ownership of frequent viewers and local residents.

His prodigious portfolio has included works as far afield as Scotland, Spain and Sydney and now, Chicago.

Following an eight month residency in Edinburgh, Andy’s project ‘The Kelpies’ – two, 3-metre equine sculptures made of steel – is now on display in Grant Park, Chicago for the next 12 months as part of the Ryder Cup handover celebrations, as well as the Chicago Sculpture International Exhibition.

These jaw-dropping sculptures are one-tenth scale maquettes for a proposed 30 meter (100 feet) tall landmark feature of The Helix Environmental Regeneration Scheme on the Forth and Clyde Canal near Falkirk in Central Scotland.

This is a major civil engineering project and, when complete, will be one of the largest equine artworks in the world.

MYB Textiles

The company Morton Young and Borland Ltd was founded in 1900 in Ayrshire, Scotland, exclusively manufacturing Scottish Leno Gauze weave, later known as Scottish Madras. Soon after, in 1913, the company invested in Nottingham Lace Looms to offer a larger variety of products to its clients and to bring Lace making to Scotland. The Irvine Valley offered the perfect damp climate for the Nottingham Lace machinery and its product. Morton Young and Borland have developed the name MYB Textiles over the past 20 years to add a contemporary edge to their proud heritage.

Over the years MYB has invested heavily in developing and modernizing the production techniques involved in creating Scottish Lace and Madras, and were lucky enough to receive technical advice from local inventor Michael Litton, who produced the first seamless airbag on an MYB Madras loom in return for developing an improved version of the Madras Loom which maintained the high quality product MYB are known for but with a much larger production capability. This innovation and development of technology combined with an archive of over 50,000 original drawings give MYB its unique position.

Today many of the original Nottingham Lace looms have been modified and networked to the CAD computers in the design office. This is yet another amazing development for MYB and has allowed for increased production and design capability whilst simultaneously decreasing the turnaround time for clients. Morton Young and Borland and more recently MYB Textiles have built its reputation on the specialist skills and traditions prevalent in its products, and thus attract discerning clients from across the globe.

The Hampton Crack Baby Cocktail by Iona Crawford

09.12.2012, Comments Off on The Hampton Crack Baby Cocktail by Iona Crawford, Luxury Cocktails, by .

The Royals, Kate and William, served their late-staying wedding a Crack Baby.  A passionfruit-vodka-champagne concoction that is reportedly their favorite drink.   What is good enough for the Royals is good enough for the Hampton’s of course but…with a twist.

Prince of Scots has made Artist and Designer Iona Crawford a true fan of St Germain.  During our Hampton’s Fashion Weekend Out, Iona was inspired to  design and create her version of the Crack Baby just for the Hampton’s.

  • 2 parts passionfruit juice
  • 1 part St. Germain
  • fresh passionfruit
  • 1 bottle of champagne or sparkling wine
  • ice

Mix the ice, passionfruit juice, St Germain, passionfruit, and stir well. Half-fill your beverage glass then top up with champagne!

Cheers!
